The Project

This 2-storey craftsman home in Brackendale, Squamish had a classic challenge: years of weathering had left the siding, soffits, and trim in rough condition. The homeowner, Dan, wanted a bold, modern transformation — navy blue siding with crisp white trim, a burgundy front door, and a fully painted shed to match. The result is one of the most dramatic before-and-after transformations we've completed in the Sea-to-Sky corridor.

The biggest challenge on this project was the prep work. The existing siding had significant paint failure — peeling, cracking, and surface degradation that required two full days of scraping, sanding, and spot priming before a single coat of paint could be applied. Skipping or rushing this step would have meant the new paint failing within a year or two. We took the time to do it right.

Once the surfaces were properly prepared, we applied Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint Flat to the wood siding and soffits — chosen for its exceptional coverage and hide on wood surfaces. The fascia and doors received Duration Satin for its premium durability and moisture resistance. The full shed was painted to match the house, completing the transformation and giving the entire property a cohesive, finished look.

Eight days of work. Two days of prep. The result: a craftsman home that looks like it was built yesterday.

Products Used

Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint Flat ↗— Wood Siding & Soffits

SuperPaint Flat provides outstanding coverage and hide on wood siding and soffits. Its flat finish minimizes surface imperfections and delivers a clean, uniform appearance. SuperPaint's advanced formula resists mildew and fading — critical for Squamish's wet coastal climate. On a project with this much prep work, SuperPaint's superior adhesion to properly primed surfaces ensures the finish lasts.

Sherwin-Williams Duration Satin ↗— Fascia & Doors

Duration Exterior is Sherwin-Williams' premium exterior coating — chosen for fascia and doors where durability and moisture resistance are paramount. Its satin sheen provides a clean, finished look on fascia boards and doors, and its self-priming formula ensures exceptional adhesion on properly prepared wood surfaces.

“The prep work alone was impressive — two full days of scraping and sanding before they even touched a brush. The result speaks for itself. The blue looks incredible and the shed matching the house is a detail we love. Professional team, clean job site, and exactly what we asked for.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Squamish's wet climate affect exterior paint?+
Squamish receives over 2,000mm of rainfall annually — one of the highest in BC. This means exterior paint must be applied to properly prepared, dry surfaces and must be a premium product with excellent moisture resistance. We use Sherwin-Williams Duration and SuperPaint lines specifically because of their advanced moisture protection. Prep work is non-negotiable in Squamish: any failing paint, gaps, or exposed wood will absorb water and cause the new coating to fail within a season.
What time of year is best to paint a home exterior in Squamish?+
Late spring through early fall (May through September) is the ideal window for exterior painting in Squamish. We need temperatures above 10°C and at least 48 hours of dry weather after application. July and August offer the most reliable conditions. We do not recommend exterior painting in November through March due to the high rainfall and temperature fluctuations that prevent proper curing.
How long will exterior paint last in the Sea-to-Sky corridor?+
With premium products and proper prep, exterior paint on a Squamish or Whistler home typically lasts 7–10 years. Homes with significant sun exposure on south-facing walls, or those with cedar siding that wasn't properly primed, may need attention at 6–8 years. Our 2-year workmanship warranty covers any adhesion or application failures within the first two years.
Do you work in Whistler, Pemberton, and Brackendale as well as Squamish?+
Yes — Colour Craft Painting's Sea-to-Sky franchise covers the entire corridor from Squamish through Brackendale, Garibaldi Highlands, Britannia Beach, Whistler, and Pemberton. We regularly work on homes throughout the Sea-to-Sky region and are familiar with the specific challenges each area presents.
How do you handle difficult access on multi-storey homes in Garibaldi Highlands?+
Many homes in Garibaldi Highlands and Brackendale are built on sloped terrain with challenging ladder placements. Our crew is trained and equipped for difficult access situations — we use 40-foot extension ladders, pump jacks, and where required, boom lifts. We assess every access challenge during the estimate and price accordingly so there are no surprises on the job.
