The Project

A bold, statement exterior on a 3-storey East Vancouver home. Purple siding, charcoal grey trim, and a pink front door — a colour combination that turned heads on the street and gave the home an entirely new identity.

The project presented significant technical challenges. The 3-storey profile required 40-foot ladders throughout, and the challenging ladder placements on the sloped sides of the property demanded careful rigging and safety planning. The extensive prep work — scraping, sanding, and caulking — took several days before any paint was applied.

We used Sherwin-Williams Super Paint Flat on the siding and soffits, and Duration Satin on all trim, fascia, window frames, door frames, doors, and garage doors. The project was completed in 14 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Vancouver's climate affect exterior paint longevity?+
Vancouver's mild but wet climate — averaging 1,200mm of rainfall annually — means exterior paint must be moisture-resistant and properly applied to clean, dry surfaces. The Lower Mainland's combination of rain, mild temperatures, and UV exposure from summer sun creates a demanding environment for exterior coatings. We use premium Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore products specifically chosen for their performance in Pacific Northwest conditions.
What are the specific challenges of painting heritage homes in East Vancouver?+
Heritage homes in East Vancouver and Mount Pleasant present unique challenges: multiple layers of old paint (sometimes including lead-based coatings on pre-1978 homes), intricate trim profiles, and wood that has been through decades of moisture cycling. Proper prep — scraping, sanding, and spot priming — is essential. We are EPA RRP certified for lead paint work and carry the appropriate insurance for heritage property projects.
What time of year is best for exterior painting in Vancouver?+
The optimal window for exterior painting in Vancouver is April through October, with May through September being the most reliable. We need temperatures above 10°C and at least 48 hours of dry weather after application. Vancouver's mild winters mean we can sometimes work in March and November during dry spells, but we never paint in rain or when frost is forecast.
Do you serve North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and Burnaby as well as Vancouver?+
Yes — Colour Craft Painting's Vancouver franchise covers the entire Lower Mainland including Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, and New Westminster. We are familiar with the specific housing stock in each area, from the stucco homes of North Vancouver's Edgemont Village to the heritage craftsman homes of East Vancouver and Mount Pleasant.
How long will exterior paint last on a Vancouver home?+
With premium products and proper prep, exterior paint on a Vancouver home typically lasts 7–10 years. Stucco homes with elastomeric coatings can last 10–15 years. Homes with significant north-facing exposure or moisture issues may need attention sooner. Our 2-year workmanship warranty covers any adhesion or application failures within the first two years.
